Program Classification: Postsecondary Vocational Education – Skilled Trades

Program Description

The Carpentry Certificate Program is a postsecondary vocational training program designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in residential carpentry and general construction within the State of Illinois.

Graduates are prepared to pursue employment as carpenter assistants, framing assistants, or construction laborers under the supervision of a licensed contractor. This program does not confer contractor licensure.

Instructional Scope

Curriculum includes:

• OSHA-aligned construction safety training
• Tool identification and safe operation (hand and power tools)
• Blueprint reading fundamentals
• Measuring, layout, and framing principles
• Basic wall and floor framing
• Interior trim and finishing
• Drywall installation basics
• Door and window installation fundamentals
• Introduction to remodeling concepts

Training Environment & Supervision

Hands-on training is conducted:

• In a structured educational shop setting
• Through supervised instructional projects
• Within controlled skill-development exercises

Students do not perform independent contracting services or large-scale structural construction as part of this program. Elevated or high-risk structural installations are limited and conducted strictly under instructor supervision.

SCHEDULE

Our program is 45 hours. Students may attend M/W, Tu/Th, Saturday, or Sunday per availability.

• Mandatory PPE use
• Supervised power tool operation
• Clearly documented shop safety procedures
• Appropriate commercial general liability coverage
